Many people ask me what it is I like about fitness swimming. Is it the cool blue waters, the sensuous feel of water lobbing all around me or the desire to complete the customary miles regardless of biting cold or sweltering heat? The answer is – none of these!

What I like most about my swimming ritual is the happiness it brings me. You see, I am no competitor. I do not swim at competitions and I do not have any medals or trophies to flaunt. But, what I do have is the ability to swim nonstop for a few miles, and a body and mind that has grown infinitely richer because of my swimming routine. I am a fitness swimmer.

In the concrete crazy, money spinning world around me, I am not alone. Actually, less than one-third of swimmers are into the sport for competition. Reports say that there are more than 35 million fitness swimmers in the US alone. Most of us swim because we love it. Of course, it also helps that swimming is such a great fitness activity both for the body and mind.

Fitness swimming is an easy way to keep fighting fit. The inherent nature of swimming makes it a gentle and comfortable activity for any age group. Many fitness swimmers over the age of 50 are people who have come into the sport to get away from high cholesterol levels, increase blood pressure levels, cardiac problems and asthma or muscle injuries. With fitness swimming, it doesn’t matter if you are overweight or obese. This is one exercise where you won’t feel the entire weight of your body bogging you down. In fact, you feel much lighter in water than on land because the density of water is almost similar to the density of the human body. The good part of all this is that your body is not placed under any stress or tension while you are swimming. Unlike other kinds of exercise, you can never sustain an injury while swimming. That explains why swimming is a recommended form of exercise for people who are recouping from an injury or illness.

Since swimming is an excellent form of aerobic workout, it can burn calories efficiently. In fact, it can burn twice as many calories as vigorous running, staircase climbing and treadmill jogging. Even three hours of swimming a week is enough to bring you muscle strength, flexibility and endurance.

Fitness Swimming is a great all round exercise. It works out every muscle of the body gently yet rigorously. The superb physique of competitive swimmers is an indication of how swimming can make you lean and trim – a true treat for the eyes!

But, fitness swimming is not just about your body. Swimming is a fantastic form of meditation too. As you place one arm in front of the other, humming your favorite song to yourself and floating effortlessly in the water, your mind goes into a ‘Zen’ mode. Stress is quickly forgotten. Deadlines don’t matter for a while. The noise of the city leaves you. There is only you and the water. New ideas emerge. Old problems seem less life threatening. Life seems full of possibilities. An incredible sense of well being envelopes you.

Why do I love fitness swimming? There really is no one answer.

There are some fun skis that can be rented during the summer season for a number of water sports in any city located near a beach. Water enthusiasts that live near a beach front are more likely to own their own set of water skis. This water sport is very popular with boat owners because it requires very little equipment. Boating enthusiasts that want to cool off from the high temperatures of a summer day will consider many water sports.

Some of the water sports are made for one person but there are others that can accommodate a small crowd. For the water sports that involve skiing, a water enthusiast will typically don a life vest and cool off rather quickly by being towed behind the boat on a rope on a gorgeous set of skis that are perfectly sized for their body length. For small children, there are specially colored skis that can be rented and they are complemented by small sized rubber pads that are perfect for little feet.

Any vacationer that heads to a resort location will typically be interested in several water sports that are offered. Some of the vacationers will usually choose motorized jet skis to go sightseeing along a resort coastline, and save some of the other water sports for later in the afternoon. The power motors in the Jet Ski’s offer tourists the ability to zoom across the water at speeds that could exceed 125 miles per hour.

Of course, there are speed laws at sea to comply with as well as safety regulations that must be enforced, but even with these small hindrances jet skis provide a lot of entertainment for a vacationing family to enjoy. For safer water sports for young children, there are games of volleyball that are played in waters that are knee deep.

Many vacationers like improvising and spend time doing water sports that are very low cost. The children are quite happy to spend their time in the water bodysurfing and using their own boogey boards to skim across the water surface as much as they like. Parents might consider hang-gliding and sight-seeing at the same time but some instructions are required before take-off.

Vacationers like to relax while away from the day-to-day bustle of work and home life, and will generally enjoy simple water sports like rafting and canoeing to pass some of the day and all of these water sports can be enjoyed by the entire family. For the more active water enthusiasts there is surfing, but this water sport will require prior knowledge with enough skill to brave the waves that can come crashing down on the shoreline.

In the tropical areas of the world, there are several breathtaking areas that you could swim in, from lakes to amazing coastal beaches. Areas such as Hawaii, the Bahamas, California, and Puerto Rico have several beaches for you to enjoy.  For those of us living in the middle of the United States, take a swim and enjoying the water can be a bit more challenging.

While you can choose to go to a local swimming pool, the summer months can often leave the local pool crowded.  Crowded pools can be very frustrating indeed, especially if you are looking to swim laps. If it’s a really hot summer day, the pool can be so crowded that it can be extremely hard to enjoy a nice dip in the water.

To enjoy the water, you can always invest in a swimming pool for your home.  Swimming pools can add value to your home, and give you the comfort of enjoying the water anytime you take a notion.  If you are craving that exotic feel, you can always add plenty of accessories to your pool, such as shade trees, lemonade, and toys.  There are hundreds of accessories and furniture out there, many of which can add virtually any look you desire to your swimming pool.

During the hottest days of summer, nothing makes you relax more than a pool.  During the afternoon or evening, swimming can help to make it a little cooler.  By owning a swimming pool, you can go swimming anytime you please.  You can even take a swim at night as well, providing you have adequate lighting outside near your swimming pool.

If you are a professional swimmer however, a swimming pool on your property just might not be enough.  Sport swimming has a lot of strict requirements, including lap swimming.  A traditional swimming pool in your backyard may not be the best way to swim laps.  You can always get a lap pool or swim spa, although they cost a lot more money than most people are willing to invest.

When you look for your swimming pool, you’ll have to decide between an in ground pool or an above ground pool.  There are several choices available to you, although most will depend greatly on your budget.  If you have the money to spare, you should go with an in ground pool.  These swimming pools provide the most space, and give you plenty of options to enjoy swimming.

You can also look into a fiberglass swimming pool as well.  Swimming pools that are made from fiberglass are very durable, and offer you a pleasant solution to hot days.  These pools are very flexible, as they can easily be lowered into a hole already in the ground.  There is little to no construction involved, as most fiberglass pools are already constructed.  They are also the cheapest solution to in ground pools as well.  Fiberglass pools also eliminate the need for acid washing and liner replacements, as they don’t require any type of treatments.

With several options available to you, it’s easier than ever these days to have your very own swimming pool.  If you are interested in a swimming pool you can look for the best prices online, or contact your local swimming pool dealer.  Most pools are very affordable, and you can get some great deals if you buy at the right time.  You’ll make a lot of friends with your new swimming pool – especially on hot days when the local pool is crowded.

I am sure that most believe that it is a great idea to have a swimming pool and obviously it is very good, even more so, if one has children or grand children.

But would it not be a very clever idea to combine the advantages of a swimming pool with a Jacuzzi.Hot Tub.

That clever idea is known as a Swim Spa and is a counter current swimming pool so that you can swim against a current, but it also has exactly the same ideas and concept of a Hydrotherapy Massage Spa.

A swim spa will take up considerably less space than a conventional swimming pool as due to the counter current system less length is required. As a swimming pool is much larger anybody who has one will be aware of the actual time that it takes to keep it clean from all that the weather and elements bring in.

An efficient swim spa will have a heating system which is quite economic to run and it will remain warm for the whole year. Whereas with a swimming pool unless one has a water heating system, which usually turns out to be very costly the pool, can only provide a pleasant bathing temperature for a short time of the year. In a swim spa the water temperature is fully controllable and can be set up to 40ºC and can be adjusted for say a swimming activity or orientated to simply relax or for exercise such as aqua jogging.

A swim spa should have some form of anti-slip floor combined with sufficient depth of say 130cm to 140cm so that it can also be used for aqua jogging. When one considers that all of the operating equipment in a swim spa that is the pumps and heaters are compact it is even a possibility of being portable, for example, a Swim Spa could be placed in a garden, terrace or in the interior of a villa or house. Another possibility is a roof terrace subject to the weight and loading requirements.

With a conventional swimming pool one does have the routine of having to constantly check that the balance and quality of the water is correct.

As opposed to a conventional swimming pool a swim spa needs relatively low maintenance to keep the water clear and in perfect condition.

A properly made swim spa will be equipped with an efficient filtration system, with sufficient cartridge filters and a sufficient circulation pump.

Also as with modern Hot Tubs a swim spa should be equipped with an ozone generator to help purify the water. Ozone is a form of” active oxygen”, nature’s very own special molecule and interestingly enough the composition of one ozone molecule contains three oxygen atoms. On the cheaper made products the Ozone looks like large water droplets but on the proper made swim spas, the Ozone is seen as a fine stream of air bubbles.

A modern designed Swim Spa or Hot Tub will have well designed plumbing systems in order to minimize the noise of their running and avoid tight or small pipe runs and are well designed and assembled with proper materials and not in a cheap skate way.

A well designed Swim Spa or Hot Tub would have the latest electronic controls like those from Balboa in America or Gecko from Canada both leading manufacturers in their class in order to be able to control the spa functions such as heating – pumps – timers and that kind of thing.

A top quality Swim Spa will have well designed shells made from high-grade acrylic like Lucite Extra Cast or Aristech. Make sure that the Acrylic is of a high standard not just that it is simply Lucite inspired or based on a Lucite design.

As always my firm advice remains that one should, always, only buy a product that comes from an American or Western, internationally recognized, manufacturer of Swim Spas & Hot Tubs.

Then there is every chance that the product will last and last and provide very many years of faultless service..

The reasoning is indeed very simple the internationally recognized producer backs his products with a real guarantee, so if there is a fault it does fall back on the manufacturer and not on the consumer.

The reason why they can provide these guarantees’ is that they have had very many decades of experience and therefore they build them with the proper quality parts and components so ensuring that is will not fail. It is for that simple reason and that reason alone that they are then prepared to provide a long life guarantee.

Going by the number of people who mention it among their key hobbies, swimming is certainly a popular undertaking in many places all over the world. The popularity of swimming among human beings is remarkable, keeping in mind that man is not amphibian by nature, and swimming is an activity we are not very well adapted for evolutionary. Yet through persistence and focused exercise, there are people who have been able to perfect swimming into a fine art, and who have in the process developed swimming speeds which make them serious competition for animals that are evolutionary adapted for swimming, at least for short distance swimming sprints.

People who undertake swimming can be seen as falling into two major categories.

The first category of swimming enthusiasts is made up of people who undertake swimming for recreational purposes, and this is the bigger of the two swimming categories. It is the people in this category who list swimming as their hobby. People who undertake swimming for recreational purposes vary from those who do it regularly as a part of their daily routine (like those who must take a dip in their home swimming pools before leaving for work) to those who undertake it only occasionally, like when they happen to visit a club with a swimming pool or when they happen to be visiting a coastal town.

The second category on the other hand is made up of people who undertake swimming for occupational purposes. These are people who make their livelihood wholly from swimming. Among the prominent groups of people in this category are swimming instructors (whose ranks are swelling by the day as more and more schools start offering swimming lessons to their students) and lifesavers, as the authorities in more and more jurisdictions make it a requirement for every swimming pool and beach where people go to swim to be manned by knowledgeable swimming ‘lifesavers.’

Swimming is of course not without hazards, and it is essential that new people taking it up be aware of them, and take precautions to avoid being victims of the same hazards. These swimming hazards include the risk of drowning in the water, infection through various disease vectors resident in the water and encounter of objects (like stones) in the water one happens to be swimming in, which has in some cases been known to have fatal consequences. And while the hazards of swimming are scary, the truth of the matter is that they can be avoided by consistently observing the relevant precautions which have been developed and perfected through years of experience in swimming.

Raising a child is probably the single most important job a person will ever have. At the same time growing up is never easy for parent or child, and a well informed parent who makes intelligent child raising decisions is necessary in order to provide their child with a positive start in life. There are many ares of parenting that need to encompass these intelligent decisions and one of them is health and recreation, with baby swim being a large personal choice amongst parents.

Baby swim is a high quality recreation with wonderful benefits for your baby, however, like with many things in life, there are various ways in which a parent can go about introducing swim to their baby. It’s important to recognize that the manner in which it is introduced holds the key to encompassing the full load of benefits. The approach should be nurturing and properly paced for a child’s age, and then his accomplishments throughout the class. A friendly, patient environment is required to enhance self confidence and personal development, as well as a happy, well adjusted baby.

Teaching a baby to swim is a long term process and the approach should be with interpersonal sensitivity, selfless motivation, insight, skill and joy. A cooperative partnership between parent, child and teacher is key to creating a harmonious relationship necessary to gently and playfully guide baby through the process of learning to swim. Your baby’s needs and concerns must be respected, at the same time he is learning in an environment of joy and acceptance, never compromising a baby’s well-being through fright and deference. The use of force will nullify the following positive benefits, and result in adverse, unintended consequences and side effects. Intensive instruction, pushing a child too fast, too soon, too hard or too long can be detrimental to the child on many levels.

Baby Swim Benefits

Increases intelligence, concentration, alertness, and perceptual abilities. Improvement in social, emotional and physical development. Contributes to the positive development of the whole child. Caressing and stimulating effect on children with special needs. Parent and child can bond face to face, through touch, and experience learning together as a team. A positive foundation towards the enjoyment in a variety of water sports and aquatic venues on, in and under the water. Baby learns to interact with other babies and look forward to seeing their class mates. As, their swimming progresses your baby will gain improved coordination, strength, endurance and lung capacity. Baby swim results in healthier naps following class. Evening swim class will have the same effect for night time sleep. Early swimming fosters a growing sense of self-esteem, confidence and independence. Increases baby’s sense of well being as she progresses through the stages of baby swim.

Swimming Pool and Water Safety

Children are curious, adventurers who love to explore. Parents must always ensure their swimming pool and other water related fixtures are safely maintained and provide protection for their little explorer.

Supervision

Adult supervision is paramount. Maintain eye contact with your baby and stay close. Do not ever leave a child unattended – not even for a second. All it takes is a second to lose your child to drowning. An adult should be within arm’s length of infants and toddlers in or around water. Do not assume that wearing floaters or using a tube will keep your child safe in the water. This is especially the case when there are other children in the water, which can cause more turbulence in water waves and cause your baby or toddler to turn upside down. Do not ever assume someone else is watching your child, and be very careful who you give the responsibility to should you ask another adult to watch your child in the water. Parents supervising their baby in the water must know how to swim himself. Anyone you ask to supervise your child in the pool must also know how to swim. A non swimmer will not be able to help your child should there be a need. If your child is missing, always check your pool first. Keep toilet lids closed and locked. Remove all buckets as babies can fall in head first. Never leave a child unattended in the bath. Ensure that each caregiver understands the importance of all safety precautions.

Barriers

Barriers leading to the pool or any body of water must be installed and efficiently and professionally maintained. Keep all entrances to the pool closed and locked. Install a second lock on each door leading to the pool well out of the reach of a growing toddler’s grasp. Installing door and pool alarms can alert adults of unauthorized access. Mesh, see through fencing, should completely surround the pool, with a minimum height of 48 inches. When not in use maintain and lock the pool safety gate. Keep all climbable objects away from the fence so growing babies and toddlers cannot use them to climb over the fence. Approved pool covers can add yet another layer of protection. Perimeter yard fences should have self-closing and self-latching gates.

Swimming Safety Skills

These are a vital supplement to supervision and barriers. As the children progress, advanced aquatic abilities can provide a final safety net of protection if an unsupervised water entry should occur. Such skills include jumping in, turning around and swimming back to the side, coming up for a breath and rolling to the back for a breath.

Infant / Child CPR

Infant child and first aid certification are needed for parents and caregivers. Prepare an emergency action plan. In the event of an emergency parents should stay calm and react quickly and effectively. Install a portable phone by the pool with emergency numbers. Keep toys out of the pool when they are not being used. Keep wheel toys out of the pool area. Teach pool rules from an early age and frequently review them with your children. For older children, have them repeat the pool rules to you before they go out to swim. It is highly recommended that if your child has friends over to swim that there is more than just one adult to supervise.

For the most effective safety circle, the safety procedures must never be broken, and every aspect should be in effect at all times. Do not make exceptions, do not make assumptions, and do not assume that just because your child can swim he can never be in danger in the pool.

When looking for a baby swim class parents should look for a “baby friendly” program that offers a friendly, nurturing and patient environment. The teaching should be inspirational and love-based, not fear based. The development that comes with baby swim takes time, consistency and patience – for those families who persevere, a point is reached where their child truly feels at home in the water, encompassing all the wonderful qualities that the world of swim and water sports has to offer. Remember that when in or near water, supervision and safety is paramount to prevent drowning and other injuries.

Paddle sports in general, are the fastest growing water sport in the world today. The combined sports of paddle boarding, stand up paddling, (SUP) kayaking, canoeing, rafting and of course kayak angling or kayak fishing are included.

Driving this combined force is kayak fishing. That may come as a surprise to many however when you consider the amount of diverse specialty equipment needed, it is no small wonder. It has gotten so popular and is growing in such huge leaps, that kayak fishing clubs and tournaments have sprouted up all over North & South America.

Just as in automobile racing, competition creates more interest and puts demands on related equipment manufactures. In the light of competition, a major driving force behind the sport of kayak fishing tournaments is Tropic Bay Kayak Fishing ClassicS or simply, the Kayak Fishing ClassicS.

The Kayak Fishing ClassicS puts on 10 open tournaments along the Coastal Gulf States and follows up with an invitational national championship in November. The ClassicS is bristling with top quality, world famous sponsors and at no surprise. The company promotes the ClassicS Series by promoting the sponsors and I mean ‘promotes the sponsors’ like you have never seen before. The very effective marketing reaches to the angler’s right where they live. They know what and where they read, what they listen to and how they communicate. The no nonsense information is straight up about the sponsors and the anglers that win in the events find out quickly just how anxious the sponsors are for them to use their equipment. At each tournament or ‘Classic’, there are thousands and thousands of dollars worth of sponsor gear awarded to the winners of each event and it seems to be growing at each time. That’s a tough act in today’s economy but the sponsors get a big bang for their money.

The products are tested and compared before a sponsor is ever invited into the following. Not all are invited and there are no sponsors just for the sake of having a sponsor.  One of the ‘core values’ of the ClassicS is providing top quality equipment that the average anglers and their friends can afford. The sponsors range from kayaks to fishing rods, lures and flies to specialty clothing and famous artwork. If you win at a Kayak Fishing ClassicS tournament, you win big and so do the sponsors, but the biggest winner is the sport and that’s what it’s all about.

With the National Championship in Tampa Bay on November 27 & 28, it keeps on getting more interesting. There is nearly ,000.00 in Sponsor Gear Prizes & Cash on the line as well as the bragging rights for a year in the fastest growing water sport that there is.

Parents, understandably, do worry about their children’s safety in all types of situations, but around water in particular.  However, much of that worry can be relieved if you begin early to get training for your child in how to swim and how to be safe around water.  For this purpose, there are a wide variety of swim lessons.  Boulder, CO parents can sign their children up for classes as early as three years of age and up.

For the very youngest children in the three to five year old range, there are introductory swim lessons.  Boulder,  CO kids will start with safe classes where the student to swim instructor ratio is very low during swim lessons.  Boulder, CO beginning swimmers will start by using assistance from adults and flotation devices to learn how to propel through the water while taking part in these first swim lessons.  Boulder, CO children who complete this part will move on to needing less assistance and will learn to move through the water without flotation devices while taking part in these swim lessons.  Boulder swim instructors will next give training on stroke form, breathing techniques and body positioning to this youngest group of swimmers.  

Children ages six through fourteen can continue to improve their swimming skills through swim lessons.  Boulder, CO students who did not learn to swim before age six can now learn in introductory swim lessons.  Boulder students who are beginning swimmers and can swim without flotation devices can work on stroke form during swimming lessons.  Boulder, CO swimmers will learn how to do the freestyle, backstroke and sidestrokes.  

Children will progress through different levels of instruction during swim lessons.  Boulder, CO instructors will take those swimmers who have mastered the beginners classes, and continue their education at the intermediate level with swim lessons.  Boulder swimmers at this level will work on getting proficient at freestyle, elementary backstroke, backstroke, sidestroke, and breaststroke while taking these swimming lessons.  Boulder students will next work on appropriate breathing techniques and body positioning during the swimming lessons.  Boulder swimmers will also learn the final competitive swimming stroke, the butterfly stroke, at this level of swimming lessons.  Boulder, CO parents can also sign their children up for more advanced children’s swimming lessons.  Boulder, CO swimmers can build their endurance and learn how to stroke properly even when fatigued.  At this time they will also learn about water survival.  

Students who would like to swim competitively in high school can also benefit from swimming lessons.  Boulder students will learn advanced skills in endurance, technique and turns at this level.

There is an appropriate swim class for children at every skill level.
